Adobe Creative Jam

About
My partner Faith Eno and I competed in the 2017 Adobe Creative Jam for UX Design. This competition is where students compete in a 3 hours design-a-thon tournament under a creative field like Graphic Design, Motion Graphics, Photography, and UX Design.
TIMELINE: 3 hours
ROLE: UX Designer, Co-UX Researcher
TEAM: Faithful Pie
PROJECT: Allergy tracking app
AWARD: People's Choice Award
The Product
Mello is a quick & easy resource to reference ingredients in certain products. This app is to help people with allergies, auto-immune diseases, and for health conscious users.
They can help scan or search the product users are about to put eat, this alerts them to restrictions or allergies that they could have.
The Inspiration
We were given the theme "The New Normal", it was a very vague concept but could be interpreted in any way. I began to jot down things I thought was related to the New Normal, things related to culture, society, modern beliefs, and social behaviors.
She and I got talking about the generation changes over time. We talked about the Industrial Revolution, back then people didn't worry about what they put in their bodies and products weren't checked for expirations or labeled for important ingredients and allergies, that was the normal. And now what we do consider the "new normal", people do care about what they put in their bodies and they do care about needing to know what ingredients are in every product.

The Problem
We wanted to find a way for users who are health conscious, have allergies, and have auto-immune disease to not have to worry what they put in their bodies. Everyday users worry about what types of ingredients end up going into their bodies without having a convenient way to check.
The Objective
We wanted to create a way where users could detect the types of food that goes into their bodies so they wouldn't have to worry about carrying an EpiPen, lookup the ingredients, read the food boxes, and having to remember what they can't eat. It's also to encourage users to live a healthier life.
Personas
Based off of the problem and objectives that we created, it was time to start the research phase. Because of the limited amount time we had, there was no time for user interviews or surveys Faith and I went straight to finding out who our main target audience was. We created two personas from the assumptions we had based off the the problem we were trying to solve. We created two users, Ben who's goal is to eat healthy and Emma who has allergy issues. This helped us come up with a mental model based off the problems our users have.

Sitemap
Since there won't be enough time to create all the screens during the competition, I created this sitemap to clarify what to the overall app would have. This also helped organize and determine which screens are the most important to design.
Wireframes
I drew up some wireframes so I could communicate to my partner what I wanted the screens to have as we split up the design work.

The Designs
With such little time left, I created the required UI screens with the assistance of Faith Eno. I chose to design the six main screens that could help us present our ideas the best. We created an app that helps scan and detect certain ingredients that you can't have or prefer to not eat. This app is geared towards people who are health conscious, have allergies, and have auto-immune disease.
Login - Introduction to the app
Profile - A story where we have a user with a scenario
Search - So users know where to look
Scanner - How the app works
Discover - Another solution to encourage the idea

Conclusion
Finally after 3 long hours of designing Faith and I won 1st place in the People's Choice Award for the 2017 Adobe Creative Jam. I am so grateful for the amazing opportunity the school gave and I would like to give thanks to my awesome partner Faith Eno who I collaborated with during this competition!
